Walkover Teat Spray

Cotswold's Moojet Teat Spray is an automatic teat spray system using a floor-mounted stainless steel spray rail. It uses two spray nozzles in an offset pattern to optimise teat coverage.

Optimal Teat Coverage

While a walk-over teat spray cannot guarantee complete teat coverage consistently, proper installation and setup will ensure optimal performance.

Chemical Use

  • Increased chemical application results in improved teat coverage.
  • Standard teat spray gun: approximately 15mls per cow per milking.
  • Walk-over teat spray: approximately 40mls - 50mls per cow per milking.
  • Using more of a less expensive chemical is preferable to using less of a more expensive chemical.

Position

  • Consistent cow flow over the spray rail results in more accurate teat coverage.
  • A properly designed race leading to the spray will promote a consistent and even flow of cows.
  • Correct race width is essential to position cows directly above the spray nozzles
  • The spray rail should not be installed near sort gates, foot baths, gateways, or windy areas, as these will disrupt cow flow.

Pre-Milking

  • Walk-over teat spray is well-suited for pre-milking use.
  • Accuracy is not critical, as the chemical will be wiped off before milking.
  • Ample application of inexpensive chemical yields good coverage.
  • Time between spraying and wiping allows for sufficient bacterial kill time.

Post-Milking

  • Good teat coverage is crucial.
  • Effective post-spray chemicals are expensive.
  • Expensive chemical and high usage rate results in high cost.
  • Most common issue: Restricting chemical use to reduce costs.
